T O P I C R E V I E WAya_and_babyI get this all the time. I have Sagittarius rising, conjunct Mercury and Uranus (in a wide orb), all in Sagittarius. My Moon is in Gemini, opposing Mercury and Uranus. The Ascendant is how people percieve you. With an Ascendant set-up like mine, you would expect a highly-strung type, wouldn't you? Yet... Almost everyone tells me I come off as very calm, relaxed, collected, unphased. I do understand and I know I seem this way. Sometimes I just can't care less about ordinary issues because something more pressing is clouding my mind. I have a happy-go-lucky attitude about things which other people get stressed about ("if it doesn't happen now, it will next time"), which I can vaguely understand comes off as being calm, collected or unphased.Happy-go-lucky is typical of Sagittarius though, so that fits. The only problem I have with my attitude and how others percieve it, is that I always expect people to percieve the Ascendant of someone as is. In other words: when you have a Sagittarius Ascendant people would percieve you as happy-go-lucky and not as calm or unphased because you have a happy-go-lucky attitude. Now, I've not even come to the influence (or seeming lack thereof) of Mercury and the opposing Gemini Moon on the Ascendant. I am restless. I know this. With Mercury quite close to the Ascendant and a Gemini Moon you would expect no less. But again, people never see this. (Nov 7th born)I have to say, he is SUPER calm. Almost as if expressionless...or emotion-less. Kinda like if he's stoned or something...lol. I would've thought he is somewhat happy-go-lucky and exciting but...not really in that sense. He doesn't really get too hyped up about anything, and even if he is hyped up, the most he'd do is a classic eye opener: O_O or the classic mouth opener: =OHe is an extremely emotionally controlled person..at times. Sometimes I do see his aries moon come out and he definitely has a child-like personality at times. But normally he is just as straight as a line ________________________________________Opposite of me...I get worked up and I would sometimes flip out..that's when he comes in and tell me to CALM DOWN!It could also be the fact that you both have sun conjunct saturn..that usually gives a "Sober effect". His is also in the 12th house like yours. I'm still trying to learn how that manifests with you guys.Sometimes I feel he's not as scorpio as I thought he would be..but at times he does have soms ecorpio traits..I don't know. Real confusing..haha please enlighten me!!sandmy dad has a 5 personal planet sag stellium and comes of as very calm and really chill. it's a very subtle difference from me with my taurus sun and venus that both trine jupiter. i dunno what house his stellium is in tho.it may be that sag placements come off as calm because they feel that luck is on their side. Aya_and_babyWow, don't know what to answer to first! Thanks for the replies!Faith, good point. I am in class with a few Scorpio suns (all of them are male) and they all appear very calm at first sight. Most Scorpio men I know seem to be like that, but... Most Scorpio women I knew personally, were quite the opposite.Doreen: no probs, it's a question you can answer too, of course! But from personal experience I'd have to disagree, I find Virgo energy to have something typically nervous to it.Ami: the last person who said that I appeared calm, came to the same conclusion - it was actually in response to me saying that in school I hardly had female friends because they avoided me. To which he said that he thinks most women want a nervous, mentally unstable woman as a friend and because I looked too confident, that might have been why women used to avoid me. Funny thing is that the man who said that, is a Capricorn Sun LOL. An Earth Sun saying I looked calm... Anyway, I would interpret someone with a lot of upfront energy as... well, energetic, not calm. But then again, my Mars - my energy source - is in calm and collected Capricorn, so it does make sense!Starry: funny, I know a woman with the exact same birthday as your boyfriend's, but sometimes I just feel like slapping her and telling her to get a grip. She seems so emotionally unstable. She has Pisces rising though...I also don't feel very Scorpio, like you feel your boyfriend isn't as Scorpio as you thought. I do have typical Scorpio traits though, but even still they don't really manifest very intensely. The funny thing is that I'm actually very nervous. I get worked up about things so easily and freak out, I even have neurotic tendencies... but I try to avoid showing them. Probably another reason why people think I'm calm sand: yes, I think that's the Sagittarius "laissez-faire" attitude. That attitude is what I think makes people think I'm calm and collected. But from the sound of it, it could also be Scorpio doing it Starry~*Aya_and_baby:Haha, I do feel the sometimes uneasyness or nervousness that you both and my bf portray. Like for example, I can't surprise him out of no where or scare him, he'll literally jump an inch....but just an inch..maybe a centimenter.I asked him "what are you scared of, in general?" His response was "I'm afraid of everything"I asked him "ok like what?"and he would say "I can't tell youuuu"-_- are you like that too? LOL please explain this weirdness you guys exhibit to me. I feel there are a lot of things he doesn't want to show. Saturn in 12th can be very very private. Also, are you the type of person that REALLY need your privacy to be respected? Regardless of who it is? I know he's like that.Aya_and_babyLOL I'm afraid of almost everything too! So worried, all the time! There really isn't more I can say about that I don't really have a lot of privacy, though. I'm very open. The only thing I don't like is when someone I don't know very well, invades the privacy that I do have or tries to invade it, I get very defensive. I tend to subtly show people just how much of my privacy they're allowed to invade... Which is a lot, but like I said, unless I invite them to it, they're not allowed to invade it.I'm fine with people butting in with private conversations and such, but when someone I hardly know calls me in the middle of the night saying they need a place to sleep, then is disappointed when I say "no" and say they thought they were my "friend", that's a big no-no(and yes, absurd as it may sound, that has actually happened LOL! )I don't hide much from my boyfriend, just maybe my love for Astrology, but I've just not been busy with Astrology for some time because I had school keeping me busy. I also let him pretty much live here quite early, he's always more than welcome Starry~* quote:Originally posted by Aya_and_baby:LOL I'm afraid of almost everything too! So worried, all the time! He always welcomes me to his place. I usually stay over on weekends, but he's definitely cool about me going over on weekdays too, whenever I want. Being that the ruler of scorp is mars / pluto, mars in cap definitely would make you guys seem more cap-like. Also, I think a little while ago I had read a comment about jupiter in cap being "as fun as sunday school" - not to be offensive of course, but it was just kind of a funny way to describe it.alaz7200When discerning a "calming" effect in a chart, one must look to the Moon and the aspects she makes to the Angles. Your Moon on the Descendant is very telling indeed. Plus, you have the Sun conjunct Saturn, which although in the 12th House, is always a combination that emits a "cool, calm, collected" vibe. Your Venus conjunct Neptune also gives you an ethereal aura that could very well be construed as 'calm'.Aya_and_babyalaz, that is interesting: how does the Moon in the angles influence someone's "calm" appearance? I personally can't imagine my Gemini Moon being capable of any calming influence, hence why I'm a bit confused about it Also: I keep forgetting that actually both my Capricorn Jupiter and Mars have more aspects than I think. Jupiter, when counting a 10* orb, is sextiled with Sun and Saturn, but even though Saturn is slower than Jupiter, the aspect between the Sun and Jupiter is separating, so I usually don't count it. But I always count the VERY wide and out of sign aspect between Pluto and Mars, so I don't know why I always say my Jupiter is unaspected... Also Mars seems to be in a wide and out of sign sextile with my ASC.Maybe that explains the calm influence. After all, Mars is also my Sun's ruler.Man... I'm dominated by Capricorn. Funny. My dad's a Capricorn too.Aya_and_babySeems like I have quite a few "calming" influences, anyway SaggiMCmercury in saggi is in detriment http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Detriment_(astrology) your chart ruler is unaspected.Basic astrology forum, retrogrades,Unaspected & Singletons http://www.linda-goodman.com/cgi-bin/ubb/forumdisplay.cgi?action=topics&forum=Basic+Astrology&number=12&DaysPrune= JUPITER POSITIONED IN CAPRICORN http://www.dharma.lt/en.php/astrology/astrological-topics/jupiter-positioned-in-capricorn/ your moon is hand of bucket chart AND a sinlgetonBucket chart http://www.myastrologybook.com/Bucket-planetary-pattern-astrology.htm http://en.mimi.hu/astrology/bucket.html http://www.skyscript.co.uk/aspects2.html http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Natal_astrology#Aspect_patterns http://www.bobmarksastrologer.com/funnel.html http://www.astrococktail.com/planetaryorderIII.html mercury albeit wide orb conj uranus, makes for a very quick mind and speech, but can also add argumentativnessSun conj saturn, will seriously modify how your sun expresses to be more like cappi/saturn and stuck in 12th will dissolve some of these energies inanyevent..Basic astrology forum, 12th house planets http://www.linda-goodman.com/ubb/Forum12/private-jjLYZw161/HTML/000666.html Alicia, with your mars square pluto again wide orb, I hope you do some sports or martial arts, or bungee jumping even, the risker the better..Basic astrology forum discussing Saturn in houses http://www.linda-goodman.com/ubb/Forum12/private-jjLYZw161/HTML/000660.html Basic astrology forum discussing Neptune in houses http://www.linda-goodman.com/ubb/Forum12/private-jjLYZw161/HTML/000661.html Basic astrology forum discussing Uranus in houses http://www.linda-goodman.com/ubb/Forum12/private-jjLYZw161/HTML/000662.html Basic astrology forum discussing Pluto in houses http://www.linda-goodman.com/ubb/Forum12/private-jjLYZw161/HTML/000663.html Basic astrology forum, Learn the basics + House systems. http://www.linda-goodman.com/ubb/Forum12/private-jjLYZw161/HTML/000671.html ------------------I love the parable, “If you give a man a fish, you feed him for a day, BUT if you teach him how to fish, you feed him for life.”Aya_and_baby quote:Originally posted by SaggiMC:mercury in saggi is in detriment http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Detriment_(astrology) your chart ruler is unaspected.Basic astrology forum, retrogrades,Unaspected & Singletons http://www.linda-goodman.com/cgi-bin/ubb/forumdisplay.cgi?ac tion=topics&forum=Basic+Astrology&number=12&DaysPrune= JUPITER POSITIONED IN CAPRICORN http://www.dharma.lt/en.php/astrology/astrological-topics/jupiter-positioned-in-capr icorn/ your moon is hand of bucket chart AND a sinlgetonBucket chart http://www.myastrologybook.com/Bucket-planetary-pattern-astrology.htm http://en.mimi.hu/astrology/bucket.html http://www.skyscript.co.uk/aspects2.html http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Natal_astrology#Aspect_patterns http://www.bobmarksastrologer.com/funnel.html http://www.astrococktail.com/planetaryorderIII.html mercury albeit wide orb conj uranus, makes for a very quick mind and speech, but can also add argumentativnessSun conj saturn, will seriously modify how your sun expresses to be more like cappi/saturn and stuck in 12th will dissolve some of these energies inanyevent..Basic astrology forum, 12th house planets http://www.linda-goodman.com/ubb/Forum12/private-jjLYZw161/HTML/000666.html Alicia, with your mars square pluto again wide orb, I hope you do some sports or martial arts, or bungee jumping even, the risker the better..Basic astrology forum discussing Saturn in houses http://www.linda-goodman.com/ubb/Forum12/private-jjLYZw161/HTML/000660.html Basic astrology forum discussing Neptune in houses http://www.linda-goodman.com/ubb/Forum12/private-jjLYZw161/HTML/000661.html Basic astrology forum discussing Uranus in houses http://www.linda-goodman.com/ubb/Forum12/private-jjLYZw161/HTML/000662.html Basic astrology forum discussing Pluto in houses http://www.linda-goodman.com/ubb/Forum12/private-jjLYZw161/HTML/000663.html Basic astrology forum, Learn the basics + House systems. http://www.linda-goodman.com/ubb/Forum12/private-jjLYZw161/HTML/000671.html Wow! Lots of newcomers come into Astrology/forums and get a free chart from astro and the default ‘house system’ used is Placidus and think that’s just the norm and all there is……..BUT that is just the tip of the iceberg. You can change the default on astro.com in Extended Chart selection to Equal house and a few others if you wish to experiment…..Within the mainstream are placidus/equal houses (the default on astro is placidus) only difference being some planets may move from one house to another thereby altering it's interpretation and it's 'only' with research will you find which /planets 'fit you' in which houses. So my advice, do two charts, research any planets that move houses and see which you identity with - simple So Pluto in placidus and Equal would be conj 12th house cusp, and should be interpreted as if in 12th....Same with neptune conj 2nd house cusp. Anything within 5' orb is considered more effective in the next house along going anti clockwise..regading mars/pluto albeit wide orb can sometimes either attract violence or give it out...Basic astrology forum discussing Pluto in houses http://www.linda-goodman.com/ubb/Forum12/private-jjLYZw161/HTML/000663.html http://www.celestialperspective.com/library/marspluto-aspectswhat-determines-theyre mars/Pluto aspects by Donna Cunningham"produces a forceful nature. When frustrated, you may become abusive and display much temper. This aspect suggests that your sexual drive is strong, and may not be well controlled at times. This is a very physical aspect needing control and channeling. When you can control actions, this aspect can be positive as it shows a penchant for eliminating, by force, the unacceptable and unnecessary in your life. They seem to be stuck on percieving me as some sort of Earthy Capricornian or Taurean calm and collected personality.Granted, both my Sun's and my Ascendant's rulers are in Capricorn - at least if you use traditional rulership. My Sun is in Scorpio (tr. ruler is of course Mars, which is in Capricorn in my chart), but it is also very closely conjunct Saturn (we're talking 0°) With this being said, I can also understand how I could have a Saturnian personality, but still I'm baffled about how no one seems to notice my Mercury and my Moon in all this.Moreso, even though I know I shouldn't be baffled about this - after all, we all percieve someone based on our own personalities* - I am... I'm baffled about how people always seem to link typical Earthy characteristics to me, characteristics that people who get to know me after a while, know I don't posess at all. Is that a consequence of the people I meet having too much Earth and reflecting it onto me, or is it really just down to my Saturn conjunct Sun and both Sun and Ascendant rulers being in Capricorn? For anyone who wants to have a look at my chart:
Aya_and_baby:
You have almost the exact same chart (or similar chart) to my boyfriend...minus the moon..he has his in aries. (Nov 7th born)
I have to say, he is SUPER calm. Almost as if expressionless...or emotion-less. Kinda like if he's stoned or something...lol. I would've thought he is somewhat happy-go-lucky and exciting but...not really in that sense. He doesn't really get too hyped up about anything, and even if he is hyped up, the most he'd do is a classic eye opener: O_O or the classic mouth opener: =O
He is an extremely emotionally controlled person..at times. Sometimes I do see his aries moon come out and he definitely has a child-like personality at times. But normally he is just as straight as a line ________________________________________
Opposite of me...I get worked up and I would sometimes flip out..that's when he comes in and tell me to CALM DOWN!
It could also be the fact that you both have sun conjunct saturn..that usually gives a "Sober effect". His is also in the 12th house like yours. I'm still trying to learn how that manifests with you guys.
Sometimes I feel he's not as scorpio as I thought he would be..but at times he does have soms ecorpio traits..I don't know. Real confusing..haha please enlighten me!!
it may be that sag placements come off as calm because they feel that luck is on their side.
Faith, good point. I am in class with a few Scorpio suns (all of them are male) and they all appear very calm at first sight. Most Scorpio men I know seem to be like that, but... Most Scorpio women I knew personally, were quite the opposite.
Doreen: no probs, it's a question you can answer too, of course! But from personal experience I'd have to disagree, I find Virgo energy to have something typically nervous to it.
Ami: the last person who said that I appeared calm, came to the same conclusion - it was actually in response to me saying that in school I hardly had female friends because they avoided me. But then again, my Mars - my energy source - is in calm and collected Capricorn, so it does make sense!
Starry: funny, I know a woman with the exact same birthday as your boyfriend's, but sometimes I just feel like slapping her and telling her to get a grip. She seems so emotionally unstable. She has Pisces rising though...
I also don't feel very Scorpio, like you feel your boyfriend isn't as Scorpio as you thought. I do have typical Scorpio traits though, but even still they don't really manifest very intensely.
The funny thing is that I'm actually very nervous. I get worked up about things so easily and freak out, I even have neurotic tendencies... but I try to avoid showing them. Probably another reason why people think I'm calm
sand: yes, I think that's the Sagittarius "laissez-faire" attitude. That attitude is what I think makes people think I'm calm and collected. But from the sound of it, it could also be Scorpio doing it
Haha, I do feel the sometimes uneasyness or nervousness that you both and my bf portray. Like for example, I can't surprise him out of no where or scare him, he'll literally jump an inch....but just an inch..maybe a centimenter.
I asked him "what are you scared of, in general?"
His response was "I'm afraid of everything"
I asked him "ok like what?"
and he would say "I can't tell youuuu"
-_- are you like that too? LOL please explain this weirdness you guys exhibit to me.
I feel there are a lot of things he doesn't want to show. Saturn in 12th can be very very private.
Also, are you the type of person that REALLY need your privacy to be respected? Regardless of who it is? I know he's like that.
I don't really have a lot of privacy, though. I'm very open. The only thing I don't like is when someone I don't know very well, invades the privacy that I do have or tries to invade it, I get very defensive. I tend to subtly show people just how much of my privacy they're allowed to invade... Which is a lot, but like I said, unless I invite them to it, they're not allowed to invade it.
I'm fine with people butting in with private conversations and such, but when someone I hardly know calls me in the middle of the night saying they need a place to sleep, then is disappointed when I say "no" and say they thought they were my "friend", that's a big no-no
(and yes, absurd as it may sound, that has actually happened LOL! )
I don't hide much from my boyfriend, just maybe my love for Astrology, but I've just not been busy with Astrology for some time because I had school keeping me busy. I also let him pretty much live here quite early, he's always more than welcome

Haha good points! Ya you guys don't like it but you still let us in on it LOL
Same here. He always welcomes me to his place. I usually stay over on weekends, but he's definitely cool about me going over on weekdays too, whenever I want.
Being that the ruler of scorp is mars / pluto, mars in cap definitely would make you guys seem more cap-like. Also, I think a little while ago I had read a comment about jupiter in cap being "as fun as sunday school" - not to be offensive of course, but it was just kind of a funny way to describe it.
Also: I keep forgetting that actually both my Capricorn Jupiter and Mars have more aspects than I think. Also Mars seems to be in a wide and out of sign sextile with my ASC.
Maybe that explains the calm influence. After all, Mars is also my Sun's ruler.
Man... I'm dominated by Capricorn. Funny. My dad's a Capricorn too.

Wow! Lots of links! I'll have to read them all
Thanks Saggi MC, you really looked into it, it seems! I keep forgetting my Mercury is in fact in its detriment, it often doesn't feel like it. In fact it feels like it's quite at home there...
I'm also not sure if a wide orb sextile between Jupiter and Saturn counts, both being outer planets and moving slowly anyway, the aspect applying because Jupiter moves faster than Saturn. If it counts, I might have to get used to not having an unaspected chart ruler after all
About the Pluto square Mars: I don't do sports, nor martial arts. I wanted to do karate when I was young but like with every other extracurricular activity, my mother said "no". But I'm actually not all that big into risky sports. The worst I'd do is speeding a bit with a car (if I had the license and the car, which I don't) and being an assertive cyclist. Generally I'm very calculated and avoid risks in my daily life. I love adventure, though.
I think you guys should travel if not into risky sports. That could be the source of adventure rather than go bungee jumping....LOL
I already told bf I'd love to travel adventurously, thus far I never had the chance to do so. It must be the pinnacle of travelling, I think, or is that all my Sagittarius talking? Anyway... bf doesn't have any Sagittarius (although I do suspect him of having a Sagittarius rising) and a lot of Scorpio, and he loves that kind of travelling. Plus, I'm jealous: he got to spend a year in the Amazone LOL

I use Equal House system (where each cusp is same as Ascendant) and am a modern astrologer. Lots of newcomers come into Astrology/forums and get a free chart from astro and the default ‘house system’ used is Placidus and think that’s just the norm and all there is……..BUT that is just the tip of the iceberg. You can change the default on astro.com in Extended Chart selection to Equal house and a few others if you wish to experiment…..
Within the mainstream are placidus/equal houses (the default on astro is placidus) only difference being some planets may move from one house to another thereby altering it's interpretation and it's 'only' with research will you find which /planets 'fit you' in which houses. So my advice, do two charts, research any planets that move houses and see which you identity with - simple
So Pluto in placidus and Equal would be conj 12th house cusp, and should be interpreted as if in 12th....Same with neptune conj 2nd house cusp. Anything within 5' orb is considered more effective in the next house along going anti clockwise..
regading mars/pluto albeit wide orb can sometimes either attract violence or give it out...Basic astrology forum discussing Pluto in houses http://www.linda-goodman.com/ubb/Forum12/private-jjLYZw161/HTML/000663.html http://www.celestialperspective.com/library/marspluto-aspectswhat-determines-theyre mars/Pluto aspects by Donna Cunningham
"produces a forceful nature. Often your actions can be described only as reckless. Yet you are cautious and secretive about your projects, especially as you mature and develop. You can develop a very focused concentration on progressive issues." http://www.skyscript.co.uk/marsaspects.html#maspl
